Highly detailed wood carving with an expert eye to art and realism. An exquisite example of Fukienese master craftmanship.

A 360 degree carving of the immortal Shao Lao with his gourd, staff and peach of longevity. The carving is minute down to fine beard hair, fingernails, mouth and eyes. The robe even has flares and movement. The wood is light colored and feels smooth to the touch. The wood has a tight grain, and a nice age and patina to it.

The boxwood carving has been attached to a reddish stained softwood base. This base shows the stain on the underside. The quality of the base isn’t the same as the figure. The figure is expertly carved, while the base seems an afterthought.

There are no marks or labels.

7 ½” (19.1 cm) tall x 3 3/8” (7.9 cm) wide x 3” (2.6 cm) deep. Weighs 7.7 oz (220 g)

There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The boxwood has a patina of age.

An expertly carved figure from the Fukienese discipline of craftsmanship.
