Imaginative, refined carving on a marble flat stone that has used the dark and light features of the stone to make a work of art.

An ovoid flat marbleized stone with dark and light bands of color that has been utilized by the artist to form a picture. The pine colored skin on one side has been polished away to depict a stream within a mountainous landscape. Even the tops of the mountains have a misty quality. The light colored river valley is in stark contrast to the dark mountains. The stone also has good textural qualities. There is a softwood plinth with a slot to hold the stone. It has been stained a dark color. The inside of the wood shows darkness due to oxidization. The stone has a nice weight to it. There are tiny metallic flecks in the stone that sparkle in the right light.

8 1/8” (20.6 cm) wide x 7 ¾” (19.7 cm) tall x 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) deep. Weighs 4 lb 1.2 oz (1.84 kg).

One corner near the base is rough, although this was not from damage but due to the character of the stone. This is confirmed by the fact that edge is polished and the custom made wood plinth was cut around through area. There are a couple of shiny spots above the mountains and are either drips from the substance used to shine the mountains or it was to enhance the mountain top. The piece looks very good for the artistry using the natural stone. The wood stand also has a few scratch on the surface from inserting and removing the stone.

The stone looks almost like a scroll painting. It is a very natural object that has been transformed into a very natural work of art.
