From our Fine Arts and Americana Collection, a lovely hand-embellished serigraph by Janet Treby. Hand-embellished serigraphs are different from standard serigraphs in that hand-embellished serigraphs have actually been over-painted by the artist, and so they have the texture of an original. The artist accentuates details here and there, adds coloration, adds minute touches etc, so that in a sense, each hand-embellished piece becomes a "quasi-original," as the nature of the embellishment on successive pieces is never exactly the same. This is compared to regular serigraphs where the artist's hand never touches the canvas beyond the work on the actual original. This is also why there are much fewer hand-embellished pieces in a series than there are regular serigraphs, which otherwise typically number into the hundreds. Here, the total edition size for all the hand-embellished pieces in existence for this image is only 50. This is # 40 of 50.

Janet Treby is a British artist who grew up in a small country village in Bedfordshire, surrounded by natural beauty and wildlife which strengthened her innate love and fascination for nature. Her discovery of art at an early age also led to a desire to explore the other-worldly aspects of life, namely the mystical and metaphysical. These mystical elements are interspersed within many of her pieces, and are a prominent feature of this current offering.

Drawing inspiration out of everything from the human body to the metaphysical, the vast breadth and depth of Treby’s work has always been important to her. Whether of wildlife, the female form, or quite often both, the subject is always majestically spiritual and embellished with nature, giving a constantly transforming and narrative experience to the eye.

Realizing from the age of eleven that art was her direction, nothing swayed Treby's focus. Studying at West Surrey College of Art and Design and from there on to the Slade School of Fine Art, she went on to long success in the London Contemporary Art scene, garnering many awards and putting on many exhibitions. Today she is a highly acclaimed artist with a notable presence on both sides of the Atlantic.
