From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a large enameled silver box from Jaipur, Rajasthan (India), featuring a very attractively painted elephant in regal attire executed in royal blue against an irridescent turquoise background, with floral motifs in green, blue, and champagne color around the borders and on the sides, all executed upon high grade silver. This particular box is a larger example of another similar piece we offer, item # 937150.
There is a plethora of arts and crafts throughout the Rajasthan region, and the different cities there tend to have a few art forms in particular that they each excel at. In Jaipur, the so-called "Pink City," they excel at these enamel on silver creations, and we bought several of the best examples we could find.
Size and condition: 8 inches wide, 5 3/4 inches deep, 2 inches tall. This box has 2 areas of blue enamel that have flaked off the legs of the elephant as seen in the photos, plus other minor wear around some edges. This can be very easily remedied with some matching touch- up enamel, but we would rather leave this to the discretion of the buyer to address. Price reduced nevertheless. Someone who does not mind having to deal with a minor and very fixable flaw like this has an opportunity to pick up a beautiful and substantial silver box like this at a good discount.
