From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a fine 19th century Lahore carpet featuring wool on wool construction, utilizing a vibrant palette dominated primarily by various blue on blue hues, accented with burgundy, taupe, cream, lilac and green.
Size and Condition: 11 3/4 feet x 8 3/4 feet. Great pile throughout, strong coloration with only slight oxidation. Remains of original fringe still present, but trimmed. This carpet features some wonderful abrash, which is the natural variation in color that sometimes occurs in genuine antique rugs over time, as some colors morph with age at different rates due to differences in dye lots, which were handmade then and thus not entirely uniform in composition. This can be seen in various areas of this carpet, where blues even within the same field have taken on slightly different hues. Abrash is a wonderful hallmark of legitimate age on a carpet.
