From our European Collection, a very fine and elegant Victorian era marquetry inlaid credenza, late 19th century circa 1865-1890. This beautiful piece is dark walnut inlaid in stylized foliate strapwork design, using a softer and lighter colored wood for the inlay material that is most likely either tulipwood or fruitwood. The piece is adorned with wonderful gilt bronze castings on the columns and base area that are essentially artwork unto themselves. There is one central panel door (with original key) that opens up to interior shelving on the inside, as well as two serpentine / curved glazed paneled doors containing additional shelving space on each side. The top display surface is a beautiful burled wood with a rich look and feel. Overall this is truly a lovely piece of antique furniture that adds class and sophistication to any room in which it's placed.
Size and Condition: Approximately 76.5 inches wide, 42 inches tall, and 17 inches deep at the deepest point. There are several instances of minor cracking, dings, knocks, and dents consistent with age and use, but these are all merely cosmetic and simply add to the character, authenticity, and bonafides of the age of the piece. There is one longer crack / partial split on the top burled wood section that we might or might not decide to repair. But that crack is stable nevertheless, and the piece overall is entirely structurally sound and ready for use.
