From our European Collection, a beautiful mid-late 19th Century pastel under glass rendering of a young woman with a pensive gaze, flower in her hair, and time piece in hand, framed in a wonderful gilt-carved and gesso Period frame of the era, with very ornate ribboning at the top. Artist unknown and unsigned, but Continental School 19th century for certain.
Size and Condition: Framed dimensions are 38 inches tall by 31 inches wide, unframed image size is 26 inches tall by 22 inches wide. There is some gilt loss to the frame from age and handling, as well as knocks and dings, as well as scattered random cracks and small breaks to the ribboning towards the top. These are minor imperfections and be remedied quite easily. There is some scattered foxing and staining to the pastel image itself as seen in some of the photographs, but for pastel works we recommend leaving this alone, as it does not detract from the beauty and value of the piece, and is part of its air of age and authenticity.
