For sale here is an ICONIC pair of vintage 1950s 60s handmade sterling silver Mexican modernist boomerang design cufflinks by Sigi Pineda (1929-2018) of Taxco. A younger cousin of Antonio Pineda, Sigi started as an apprentice in the Los Castillo workshop in the 1940s in his early teens, and later worked for Margot (de Taxco) as her shop foreman before opening his own shop in 1952 in Taxco. His jewelry designs were heavily influenced by the international modernist movement of the time including modernist jewelry designers in the US and Europe. I met Sigi a few times in the 1990s and early 2000's, and he was a wonderful very friendly and very generous person. One of the things I remember most about Sigi is that he was not just a jewelry designer, his drawings for his designs were artworks themselves! My last photo is of Sigi from the latter part of his life. Sigi Pineda was one of the premiere mid century modernist designers in Taxco from the 1950s onwards, and this is an exceptional design with his usual superlative craftsmanship! An early design number "10", these cufflinks measure 1" by 3/4" and the pair weigh a hefty 16.8 grams total. Marked as shown, "Sigi Tasco" "Sterling Hecho en Mexico" design number "10" and Eagle 36. Excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and tarnish as shown - please view the photos, read the description, and ask all questions prior to purchase. I am open to reasonable offers from serious buyers.
