Bamboo Poutai. Very finely carved. The artist knew how to make all the emotions and characteristics of the character. The delicacy of the movement of the hands slightly retracted in a precious attitude, the joy of the laughing eyes wrinkled with enjoyment, the softness of the mouth. The sympathetic fatness of the neck. All is benevolence. The grain of the fine wood fibers draws on the skull and on the chin a semblance of hair, as well as on the nape of the neck, the defects of the wood correspond...

. The bronze is cast with lost wax and is hollow but very thick. Beautiful casting and good sculpting finish. No traces of gilding or pigment. The figure is in a very dynamic position, with unusual gestures difficult to model. The artist has given the hands a beautiful elegance by bending the fingers excessively. The bronze has a beautiful antique patina which dates back to the 18th century or earlier. No restoration, good condition. However it seems that something is missing on the head, perhap...

Brush washer in green jade. Carved in the shape of a lotus plant. Two leaves serve as water receptacles, one large and one small, probably the large one for rinsing the brush and the small one for clean water. Finely chiseled and meticulously detailed. The brush washer rests on three points that are strongly off-center in a very elegant way. This decentering at the limit of the imbalance is a feat of the artist and gives a very specific elegance to this sculpture. Large about 15 cm. Fine co...

Buddha in copper alloy (red brown bronze) thick and very heavy cast in one piece, hot-gilded with mercury. The gilding is slightly greenish and very thick, it has gone in places as we can see in the photo. The style is angular with facets (see the cheekbones in particular) and must correspond to a very specific time or place. Underneath there are 2 incised Chinese characters. The hairstyle is left without gilding, no traces of pigment. He holds in his hand what seems to me to be the Buddhist whe...

Candlestick in embossed copper alloy and cloisonné enamels. The top and bottom edges in solid bronze. The whole is cloisonné and enamelled with the edges which are in chanlevé (the bronze is carved and the designs are filled with enamel). Hot gilding, Kien-long mark incised under the base but surely apocryphal. I think it's a Chinese work from the end of the 19th century. Some normal wears and see photos. No restorations. Probably Tibet. Miniature Buddha in cast bronze gilded with the mercury technique. Under the base curiously we can see a Vajra cast in relief. The sculpture is simple rustic, the details are little or not chiseled, however the gilding is of the best quality, very thick and tends to flake.Traces of pigment on hairs and eyes. The style of the base with elephant and Buddhist Lions in front and crosses at the back, makes me think of the 15th century style. No restaurations. Very nice patina real...

Guanyin bronze lost wax casting. Very thick bronze walls. The statue was red lacquer and gold, we find discreet traces of it in the hollows. It seems that there are also traces of mercury gilding in the hollows which are more brilliant than the rest of the bronze. Very heavy.Certainly later Ming or early Qing No restoration. H: 39 cm. Sometimes the Chinese craftsmen recovered gold on the declassed statues by scraping them with a scraper. On this Guanyin one distinguishes on the metal the pas...
