Satzuma earthenware dish by Kinkozan. Kinkozan kiln, satzuma fine earthenware dish, decorated in a reserve in the shape of a butterfly on a typical deep blue background decorated with gold scrolls and kiku Mon. Gold mark on the back. The main decoration represents a rooster and a hen near a fountain on the bank of river in a flower garden mainly with peonies. A cherry tree in blossom and a wisteria shade the scene. The creations of the Kinkozan kilns are of irregular quality, often the worst, sometimes the mediocre, rarely the best. Here we have the best of the best. The quality is optimal, the smallest flower is painted with a realism is a perfection without the slightest defect. We can look with a magnifying glass for a defect in vain among the thousands of brushstrokes. This is the work of the best painter of his time. The quality of a Yabu Meizan ceramic is far exceeded. Meiji period around 1900. In a perfect state. Slight gold wear in places as can be seen in photos. 217 x 25 mm (8.5 x 1 inches)
