A strikingly beautiful chawan (tea bowl) made by a recognized potter named Naba Shoei, born in 1965.
Naba Shoei is especially known for his works inspired by classic Korean pottery, like Mishima and Korai style vessels, but he also works with Iga clay, like in the case of this particular vessel.
Kamahen refers to the changes that are left to occur in the kiln, during firing, on the unglazed pottery, often creating unexpected and spectacular results. This tea bowl is a magnificent example of that technique.
