Guest Book

A fine chawan (tea bowl) by Yamato Kiyoshi (b. 1953), a recognized potter from the Hagi pottery tradition. The Yamato family of potters has been associated with Hagi pottery since the end of the 19th century, when Yamato Shoroku (the 11th Rinchinan) established the Shoroku kiln in 1895.

This well balanced bowl is a superb example of the genre. The milky, silky glaze, with peach and pink undertones, veils a rough, stone-embedded clay.
