A superb chawan (tea bowl) by Ohi Choju (1841-1886). Born in the illustrious Ohi family of potters, Choju began making potteries at the age of 15. His son followed in his father's footsteps. He took the name Kato Choju, in 1917.

The chawan is in very good condition, but shows marks of usage. It bears the seal of the potter and comes with a box that has two lids. One is signed by the artist, the other one bears an attestation by 14th generation Urasenke tea master Tantansai (1893-1964).
