A charming chawan (tea bowl) from the Shino pottery tradition, made by a potter named Tanabei Kenji, whose kiln is located in Gifu prefecture.
Tanabei Kenji has always been a student of his craft, traveling all the way to Pakistan to study pottery, and also firing potteries in Okinawa.
The soft white glaze, like sugar coating, over a red body gives this particular vessel a soothing pink aura; it is an ideal companion for a tea ceremony in the Spring. Or more casually, when the occasion calls for appeasing one’s heart.
The chawan is in perfect condition. It is signed by its maker and comes in a signed wooden box.
