A very fine set of two yunomi (tea cup) made by one of the most famous Japanese potters, Shimaoka Tatsuzo (1919-2007). It is a beautiful example of the work of that master potter.

This kind of set (Meoto, in Japanese) is often given as a gift to couples, each cup representing one person.

Shimaoka Tatuzo, who worked and lived in the town of Mashiko, studied with legendary potter Hamada Shoji (1894-1978) and was recognized as a National Living Treasure in 1996 for his Jomon Zogan technique.

Kindly inquire if you have some questions.
