An antique Bhutanese thangka depicting Sakyamuni flanked by two arhat-disciples in a stylised landscape. In the top of the painting to the left and right sides are the images of Padmasambhava and the bodhisattva Chenrezig respectively. In the bottom a portrait of one of the great Master of the Drugpa Kagyu, Ngawang Namgyal (1594-1651) flanked by the protectors Vajrakila and Vajrapani. Mounted on cardboard and framed behind glass. Bhutan, 19th century. H 75 cm, W 47 cm (incl. original silk mounting). Fair condition. Some wear and creases. Minor loss to paint, otherwise strong and sharp colours.
