An interesting and modern vase of raw, hard-fired clay with natural fire pattern by Terada Teppei. The gaping, irregular sprout striking outline some sort of volcanic vent. Signed on the bottom: Fe (Teppei’s signature on his carbon-fired pieces, on the inside of the box lid: Vase, carbon trapped unglazed , his signature and signed kiri-tomobako box with paper. H 23.5 cm. Condition: Perfect. Unique studio piece.
Although Teppei masters the old Seto and Oribe techniques, he is an innovator and well-known for his experimental styles including the use of non-glazed firing of his pieces, often together with the application of a special carbon technique. He has been participating in the prestigious KOGEI, Contemporary Kogei Art Fair in Tokyo in 2011 and many other exhibitions in Japan and Asia since 2000.
