A nyoi scepter (in Chinese: ruyi = as you wish) made of a natural twisted and gnarled root wood.
Nyoi is a ritual object, a Buddhist symbol of spiritual authority; also longevity and sagacity.
Both in Japan and China all the Buddhist important Masters are represented sitting and holding a nyoi /ruyi.
It has a very nice old patina, pleasant and smooth to the touch.
L. 43,5 cm. From Edo/Meiji 19th cent. Good condition and with original brown tassel!
The item is actually so much better in reality than the pictures!
