A beautiful sculptural vessel of eggshell form with an upper side opening. The other sides are done with his characteristic technique of grooving the surface with a needle and then rubbing iron into the grooves; cobalt blue glaze are applied on the inside side and around the rim, producing a fantastic contrasting effect.
The work is signed on the bottom and the storage box is bearing the inscription “kara” shell and the signature in his beautiful calligraphy.

Tanoue Shinya (b. 1976). After his study of Theology, he dedicate himself to ceramic graduating from Kyoto Saga University of Art, where has also been lecturer from 2006 to 2011. He is now totally dedicated to ceramic-making. He makes unique studio pottery as well as utilitarian pieces. His career has risen quickly since 2003 and his works have been exhibited in many galleries in Japan and abroad including Hong Kong, Cologne, Paris, Boston etc. Tanoue Shinya art works can be found in the collections of Museums and private homes around world. In 2017 he has received the prestigious Special Judges' Award at the 11th International Ceramic Exhibition in Mino, Japan
