‘AWAIT, Bluish Celadon Brush Washer by Chen Ai-Ming

The 2008 Beijing Olympics Game was taking place on 8th August. It was the first time ever in Chinese history to organize an major international event like this. Chinese people cheered the announcement in early 21st century and waited the great days to come. As a Chinese ceramics artist, Chen Ai-Ming also expected to be part of the event from his professional expertise.

Inspired by a ministry Olympics Game gift the ‘Water Cube’ celadon penholder, Chen Ai-Ming created this elegant brush washer that has similar outlook with the Olympics game swimming building, the Water Cube. In order to celebrate the long await event like this, Chen named the bluish celadon brush washer ‘AWAIT’.

The bluish glaze all over the washer just likes the water in Water Cube’s swimming pool. The ‘motion-glazing’ makes observer to feel like watery in the washer even it is empty. Outside the washer Chen Ai-Ming used his professional carving skill and hand crafted the Water Cube-alike surface. We just realize that none of the ‘AWAIT’ is identical! This is why Chen is called “Mr. Detail” within Longquan celadon artists.

The ‘AWAIT’ Bluish Celadon Brush Washer is in perfect condition and Chen Ai-Ming’s signature on base with certificate signed and wooden box form his workshop.
