Fine early 17th century Chinese export Kraak plate, made at Jingdezhen. About 8.125" (21.5cm) diameter. Border VII.3 as classified by Rinaldi in "Kraak Porcelain -- A Moment in the History of Trade" (see p. 106). Dishes found in the Hatcher Cargo belong to this group. On rim the peach or sunflower motif alternates with large and simply drawn sacred emblems. Central motif is Bird and Flower. Please note chatter marks to the base. Excellent condition with no frits, chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration. Grit from kiln adheres to base. This is not a shipwreck piece. Larger high-resolution images on request.
