An unusual Arita dish painted in a three colour palette of iron red, yellow and green enamels with a pattern of three Buddhist Lions with Peonies and a Camelia flower in the centre. The design is referencing a popular pattern that appears on late Ming Wucai wares largely on jars, pots and vases, rather than flat-wares. A set of Mukuzuke in an almost identical pattern is illustrated in the Shibata Collection Volume V no 291 and there dated 1700-1740. A dish with a similar pattern both to the front and reverse but in wucai enamels is illustrated in Shibata Volume VIII no 527 and there dated 1700-1730. Presumably these are in “tea taste”, a novelty pattern especially made to accompany the Kaiseki meal. The reverse is boldly painted with a Lotus flower vine arabesque in green and iron red. The dish measures approximately 18.7cm (six suns) in diameter and stand 3cm high at the rim with a foot-ring diameter of 9cm. It weighs 263gm. The dish is in good condition apart from a small rim chip otherwise no restoration or cracks. There is a single spur mark to the reverse. The cost of shipping within the UK is included in the Sterling price. Worldwide shipping is included in the US$ price. Additional images available on request.
