Rollin Karg Art Glass

Rollin Karg is an acclaimed glass artist who is renowned for his singularly unique art glass creations. He is especially well known for his creative use of dichroic colors – colors which convey one color while reflecting another – in his glass art. Rollin began his career in the working world as an engineer but it was not long before his interests gravitated toward more artistic pursuits. After exploring woodworking, pottery and photography he began to focus his artistic efforts on what he had decided to be his true artistic purpose – glassblowing.

By 1983 he had devoted his full attention and talents to glassblowing and in that same year he opened his studio and gallery, Karg Art Glass, in Kechi, Kansas. Over the years he honed his skills and he soon became well known within the art glass world for deftly mixing traditional glassmaking techniques with his own, more modern touches. His works have included paperweights, sculptures, bowls and perfume bottles. Rollin Karg’s art glass creations have won numerous awards and have been displayed in a multitude of esteemed galleries and glass exhibitions worldwide.

Juan José Asencio

Juan José Asencio was born in 1959 and was predominantly inspired creatively by the 1970s growing up. Conceptualism is often perceived as a response to Minimalism, and the dominant art movement of the 1970s, challenging the boundaries of art with its revolutionary features. The movements that ensued were all representative of a strong desire to evolve and strengthen the art world, in response to the tensions of the previous decade. Process art branched out from Conceptualism, including some of its most crucial aspects, but going further in creating mysterious and experimental artistic journeys, while Land Art brought creation to the outdoors, initiating early ideas of environmentalism. In Germany, Expressive figure painting was given another chance for the first time since the decline of Abstract Expressionism almost two decades, the genre regained its distinction through the brushstrokes of Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer and Georg Baselitz. The majority of the critically acclaimed artists from the 1960s, who had gained success and fame, kept their status in the 1970s. Andy Warhol was a key figure of those two decades, and in the 1970s started to experiment with film and magazine publishing, thus engaging in a cross-platform activity that no other visual artist of such standard had previously undertaken. By doing so, he secured his status as a celebrity. The Arte Povera movement, which appeared in Italy, received global acknowledgement in the 1970s, and leading figures such as Jannis Kounnelis, Mario Merz, and Michelangelo Pistoletto were praised.

Hattakitkosol Somchai

Hattakitkosol Somchai was born in 1934 and was largely influenced by the 1950s growing up. New York City became the focus for modernism on an international scale during the Post-War period. Many artists had travelled to the city during the Second World War, fleeing in exile from Europe. This led to a significant pooling of talent and ideas. Influential Europeans such as Piet Mondrian, Josef Albers and Hans Hoffmann provided inspiration for American artists whilst in New York, and influenced cultural growth in the United States for many decades to come. Abstract Expressionism, a form of painting that studied ideas of spirituality and the sublime, dominated the 1950s. Many artists focused on the formal properties of painting, and action painting took inspiration from the political freedom of the United States, as opposed to the strict nature of the Soviet bloc. Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Frank Kline, Barnett Newman, Clyfford Still and Adolph Gottlieb were predominant artists of this period. The male dominated environment has been subsequently revised to acknowledge the contributions of female artists such as Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, and Louise Bourgeois, amongst others.
