A finely cast, Japanese, bronze lidded vessel in the form of a sphere perched upon swirling waves and itself surmounted by a knop of a bird on a leafy branch, the bowl decorated in relief with carp in a stream. The eyes of the carp inlaid with gold. The bowl is signed, Shoryusai Chikatoshi sei, in Japanese characters. Meiji period, C20th. Dimensions are approximately 18 cm x 18 cm x 18cm. Condition is good. Howevever, a postcode has been discreetly etched to the base, and the lid is a tightly fitting. An unusually and refined piece. Additional image supplied upon request.
