Rare Guangxu Tongzhi period Peking overlay glass snuff bottle blank, no mark. Green over white and well hollowed out and before carving. The inner rim has been already smoothed down. This is old Shangtong overlay glass originally shipped to the imperial workshops or private shops to be carved by lapidary craftsmen. This one was one of the last remainder from an alley shop in the 1970s. They were treasured in the 1920s and again in the 70s-80s, to be used by the old master carvers. Don't think I can find another old one in Beijing today.
3.5" long, 1.5" wide and 1" thick. Very good condion with no damage. A fine example in the process of making a snuff bottle.
