The top of this early celluloid/bakelite jewelry box (MRWK393) is 3 ¼” in diameter and the round, satin-bottomed box that it covers is 2 7/8” across. The striking little box has a light lemon colored bottom and a black top. The bottom of the black cover has a circular groove that ‘locks’ it to the ribbed, ivory colored center. A pretty, very light lemon colored flower with a pearlized finish and a faux pearl center acts as a handle for the box lid. A small area of the ‘pearl’ finish is worn off but does not severely affect the charm and beauty of this earlier 20th century piece. An insignificant chip is barely noticeable on the base. A marvelous find for the collector of early plastic, the inside padded, slightly yellowed cushion seems to be just screaming for a strand of pearls!
