Original painted tibetan tsampa box. Tsampa is the flour obtained from grilled barley; it is the daily food of Tibetan people. The painting represents traditional Buddhist designs (eternal knot and lotus leaves). The background color of the box is in the dark gold like tone, attenuated by smoke and dust. Dimensions: diameter: 31 cm (12 inches), height: 20 cm, (8 inches). Such big size is unusual: the box likely comes from a rich family. Some chips and cracks on the painting, mainly on the cover, indicating a long use. The body itself is in very good condition considering its age: the piece dates back at least to the 19th century, but possibly older.
