This is a very dynamic Japanese studio bowl with a very thick drip glaze in shades of turquoise and blue. The effect is almost as if a blue/turquoise drop of paint had burst and the effect captured as the burst was spreading. The glaze is so thick you almost feel that you could chew it. The bowl measures 7 ½” diameter at the top by 1 ¾” high by 2 ½” diameter at the base. It is in excellent condition – one tiny chip to the bottom rim – no cracks, hairlines or restorations. It is not signed. We date the bowl sometime between the Taisho and early Showa periods, circa 1925 – 1960s.
