A ROMAN BRONZE LION HEAD MOUNT, circa 2nd-3rd Century A.D.
Modelled in high relief, the frontal face with finely incised details of the fur, a wrinkled nose and knotted brow, the wide-set eyes with recessed pupils, the jaws agape exposing the remains of large twisted incisors, the thick tufts of the mane framing the face;
MEASUREMENTS: 5¼in (13.4cm) high, a tang for attachment at the back, mounted;
CONDITION: Very good condition;
PROVENANCE: Acquired at Sotheby's Olympia in 2003 / Acquired at Bonhams, London, Auction, October 15th, 2008.
