A superb and extremely rare 19th century antique Chinese carved horn visiting card case, the thick rectangular form card case exquisitely carved allover with figures in garden setting, with trees, pavilions, birds, flowers and foliage, the carvings are deep, intricate and precise, an oval cartouche to the center of one side, the original lid fits tightly and perfectly to the case, the material of fine deep chocolate-brown tone.
NOTE : Chinese export card cases were commonly found in carved ivory, tortoiseshell, and wood, finding one in carved horn is very rare, this is the first and only one we have seen, and no similar horn card case appears to have been published.
