A second generation basket weaver from Beppu, Hakuun-sai (1918 - 2012) was known for producing high-quality bamboo and rattan pieces such as the one seen here. Exceptionally well-known during his time, he exhibited his works quite actively, both in Japan and abroad. As a result, he receive a number of high-level commissions from heads of state including Prime Minister Nakasone and Emperor Akihito to name a few.
In excellent condition, this piece is 5.2 inches in diameter at its widest point (13cm), and stands 11.3 inches tall (28.8cm). It comes with its original box signed and sealed by the artist and even includes a protective cloth with Hakuun-sai’s seal. On the inside of this flower vase you will find a wood basin used to hold water; and, etched into the bamboo slat near the base of the handle is his signature. ** International shipping and insurance included in the price
