A very unusual Japanese wood O-natsume “tea caddy” carved from one block with three children decorated in pure gold and mother-of-pearl supporting it. Three lobed panels of natural scene decorated in Usunuki-takamakie gold design with kin-keuchi and Shibayama-saiku details. Cover carved with maple-leaf motifs called “kito”, in Japanese it means “calm” or “in peace”. Signed Shosai on red lacquer under the base. Meiji period late 19th century Sizes: 17 cm. Condition report: Good condition
