Beautiful pressed tea tile with Chinese calligraphy, five stars and a pagoda with tea plants. The reverse is devided into sections so that it can be split into smaller blocks. These bricks were used as a method of payment (legal currency) in remote areas of China and Tibet up to around 1950. Including the original package of Simon Levelt (1775-1850) a trader in colonial products, the head office situated in Haarlem, The Netherlands.
