Frederick Carder (1863 - 1963) was an English designer, artist, and glass chemist. After working in the glass industry in England for twenty years, he emigrated to the United States and co-founded Steuben Glass Works with Thomas J. Hawkes (of Hawkes cut glass). During the period of time between 1903 - 1932, Carder produced designs in a wide array of shapes, colors, and finishes. In 1932 the company reorganized, and shifted focus to more clear glass products. This pair of Ivrene vases represents the time when Frederick Carder’s design influence was most fully expressed.
