Scrafitto dots surround a pool of crackled glass deeply impressed into the ovoid form of this ko-tsubo by Yagi Kazuo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakeme Hana Tsubo.  White slip appears haphazardly slapped on the body as with a wide brush, creating a vigorous dynamic, combined with the pointilized circle and abstract form, there is a tension which draws one into the belly of the work, certainly reflecting the best this important artist had to offer.

Here is a fine example of LNT Tokuda Yasokichi III covered in vivid colors ranging from white to black and with his coveted bule enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Tsubo and signed Yasokichi.Staring into this surface is like seeing the complexity of colors forming water ripples on an impressionist painting.  There is something very natural and unfiltered which captures the imagination.

White glaze parts like melting snow on the dark surface of boulders in the early spring on this lidded box by Miwa Kazuhiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled　Shiro-hagi no Shi (A poem in White Hagi).  The scene (keshiki) of the piece does evoke poetic feelings, bringing one out into the fields of the mountainous karst around the Hagi area, standing alone in a field dotted with stone and blanketed in snow, the natural textures of the earth revealing themselves in small patches ...

Columns rise in stages skyward on this unusual sculpture by Fujihira Shin enclosed in a wooden box titled Seki (barrier) and signed by his son Fujihira Yasushi.  Reminiscent of the lone barriers along the silk road leasding thorugh western China, it is covered in his quintessential milk white glaze.  The artists seal can be seen impressed into the base.  This is a very rare opportunity to acquire such a large and important work by this artist, whose sculptures are highly sought.

Form and void are everything with Maeta Akihiro, and this piece is a fine example of that idea.  Maeta uses no decoration, no overt gestures to get our attention, but relies on simplicity and elegant shapes covered in his pure white glazes.  This comes in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuji Mentori Tsubo.

A tall ribbed form covered in deeply fissured celadon glaze by Kishimoto Kennin enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Seiji Kaki Ryusui.  The body is made with waves intimating water, as the titled of Ryusui (flowing water) suggests.  It is an unusual complex form by this artist, known for his organic take on potting.

Enigmatic forms vie for dominance on the mottled blue and white sides of this Incense Burner by Kondo Takahiro with silver lid by famed metal artist Watanabe Kyosei (Yasumasa) enclosed in the original wooden box signed by both artists.   For a strikingly similar work see the book Kondo Takahiro, Time and Space (a copy is included with this sale).  The silver lid is 154 grams.

Once again Abe Anjin has lived up to our expectations with his revival of Momoyama period potting techniques, a field in which he is a forerunner.  Here is a squat bottle blasted with a Rorschach spatter, testing our inner perceptions.  All about the clay has been vitrified into a lustrous red,and the base is like textured stone, showing the extreme temperature with which it was fired.

An unprecedented work by modern pottery legend Tsujimura Shiro covered in feldspathic glaze and enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Nezumi Shino Chawan.  Here rich iron burns red on one side, fading slowly into the white glaze scarred by pin holes, traces of the artists fingers in the rising body and about the base, where he held it while dipping in the glaze.   A shino Chawan by this artist is virtually unheard of, and rarely comes to market.

This is everything we could hope for in a bowl by this esteemed artist, Kakurezaki Ryuichi enclosed in th original signed wooden box.  The first photograph tells it all, with a superb, organic form displaying a hint of green ash on the rim over a burnished red bleeding into raw pale clay spattered with goma and matte reds with small inclusions peeking out through the clay surface.  The wide base and low stance create a very powerful presence.

A superb example of Iga in a slightly flaring form by Tsujimura Kai enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Chawan.  A perfect charring descends like a waterfall from the rim on one side, sheltered by crystallized green ash on the flame scorched terracotta body.  The exverted shape allows the bowl a very comfortable fit into the palm, and the wide kodai base allows it to sit stable and firm, creating a proud silhouette.

Two Guinomi sake cups and a Tokkuri by Takauchi Shugo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Oribe Sake-ki and dated 1998. The box contains two cups, one tall, one short , and one Tokkuri, all in similar design.The set was from a solo exhibition held at the Nipponbashi Mitsukoshi Department Store in Tokyo, January 1998.The box contains the original exhibition invitation as well, and has been decorated with an image of the set by Shugo.

An organic form covered in thick emerald glaze Higashida Shigemasa and enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Oribe Jikiro.  The eclectic shape is rendered roma block of clay, hollowed and torn, like the ragged crags of Gifu, home of this pottery tradition.  Natural textures to bring out the depths of the oribe green, and electric shimmers of blue rush over the edges evoking the sense of water on the move.
