Shjades of lavender dust the thick coating of white glaze which covers the rugged form of this spectacular Sake set by Kaneta Masanao enclosed in the original signed wooden boxes titled Hagi Kurinuki Tokkuri and Guinomi respectively. The style is Kurinuki, not formed on a wheel but cut and worked from a block of clay, an approach the artist is famous for.

Masanao likely needs no introduction. Born in1953, son of seventh generation potter Kaneta Sanzaemon, he has become certainly one of Hagis most well known names. He graduated the Tokyo University of Education Art Department in 1977, and went on for advanced studies at Tsukuba University before returning to apprentice under his father in 1979. During that time he exhibited sculpture with the Kokuga-KaiHe has been displayed both nationally and internationally innumerable times including at the Nihon Dento Kogei Ten and Nihon Togei Ten among many many others. His pieces are in the collection of the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art New York and Museum of Modern Art Brooklyn, Yale University Collection, Indianapolis Museum, Philadelphia Museum and San Francisco among many others.
