Banding of colored clay in graduated tones from pink and green to dark blue, like the distant mountains surrounding Kyoto rise up from a triad of block feet of this magnificent work by important Kyoto artist Miyashita Zenji enclosed in the original signed wooden box exhibited at the Kyoto Takashimaya Department Store Exhibition in March 1993.

Miyashita Zenji (1939-2012) was born into the family of potter Miyashita Zenju, and graduated the Kyoto Municipal University of Art. Starting with the most difficult, he worked from Celadon, which relies on shape and extreme control of firing. He is held in the British Museum, Metropolitan New York, and Brooklyn Museum among a host of others.
