Amazing Hagi Chawan tea bowl by Udagawa Hosei Please See !!!
Please refer to our stock # 531 when inquiring.
A spectacular large Chawan tea bowl by Udagawa Hosei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled understatedly Hagi Chawan. The title is the only thing simple about this complex combination of contemporary clay, glaze, tradition, form, function, past and future. The white glazing has altered to soft blue and pink in the firing process, creating a feeling of opulence over the organic vessel. The kiln color change effect (yohen) is temperature dependent and also has to occur during just the right time frame in the firing cycle. A simply stunning work by this important artist that his works are getting harder and harder to find!
Size, D 13.8 cm H 9.6 cm
Already during his short lifetime Udagawa Hosei (1946-1993) was considered one of the most important Hagi potters. Much exhibited and lauded, works by him line the shelves of some of the most important collections in the world. This is indeed a rare opportunity.
