Relics fo the Nile is pleased to present this rare and interesting large carved wood shabti for a scribe. The shabti is carved from sycamore wood and is presented mammiform with a tripartite wig with arms crossed over the chest. A seed sack is painted on the back. The figure is heavily coated in a shiny black resin on the back and the details of the seed sack are presented in yellow. Much of the black resin has been lost from the front, however an old collection label presented this as "The Osiris, the scribe of the temple of Amun" with collection number 2895, 19-20th Dynasty. Shabtis for the pharaoh Seti I from this period were famous for having a similar black resin coating covering the figures. This shabti measures an impressive 6.75" in height, 7.5" tall including the stand. From the estate of Robert Kenyon, acquired from the Ancient Arts Gallery in New York in the 1950s.
