Yukio Kodama(1916-1992)
He was born in Osaka city, Japan. Since he was in middle school, he started top paint. He went to study Economics at Kansai University. During the year 1936, he entered the Kansai Art Exhibition contest. His work was received well. From this time, he studied under Tamura Kounosue, well know Japanese Painter. In 1937 he entered his work at Nkaten. He received the award. In 1938, he received award at All Kansai Art Exhibition. After he finished college, he entered to the military. He spent 7 years during the war in China. He returned to Japan in 1946. In 1947, he received Osaka Mayor Award for his work. In 1950, he received the award at Nikiten. In 1952, he became a committee member of Nikikai. In 1956, he moved to Tokyo. In 1957, he lived in Paris on year. He kept painted the subject of Paris and traveled around Europe. In 1959, He had one man show at Mitsukoshi Department store in Osaka. In 1964, he traveled to USA and Mexico. He had one man show at Nichido Gallery in Tokyo. He published his Lithograph catalog in 1981, one titel, “Four seasons of Paris” and other one, “Paris, twelve months”. After his teacher, Tamura Kounosuke, he left Nikikai. In 1990, he published water color book, “Painting Europe”. He had water color exhibition at Nichido Gallery. In 1991, he had his drawing series show at Ginza Matsuya. He passed away in 1992 at Tokyo. His painting work title, “Town with Advertising Tower” is in Tokyo Museum of Art. As well as other works around Japanese Museum.
