The size of Snuff Bottle: 2 3/4" H x1 3/4" W x 7/8" D. This is finely carved Chinese Snuff Bottle is made of Malachite stone. It has fine carving of Fish with Lotus flower bud and leaves. The subject is Carp climbing up the water fall which has proverb from Chinese that when Carp finished climbing th e water fall, carp will became Dragon. The symbol of success. Open works were intricately carved, especially lotus leaved are thinly carved. The lid/stopper is made from
same malachite form continuously from main body to lid. Please note snuff bottle is carved out from two stone together in the center. There is line in the center of snuff bottle showing. Snuff bottle was carved out from this one stone. You can see the line on the bottle of snuff bottle as well as from around. It is not repaired line. It is from beginning. Please also note both sides of snuff bottle’s neck area (fish’s head) has a couple of flaked surface area which is minor. It appeared from original carved time, rather repaired because
the top of rim does now show repaired. These does not taking away the beauty of this fine carved malachite snuff bottle.It is dating from early 1920's to 1930's. I have purchased in 1990 from
Antique dealer's auction in Dallas.
