A pair of superb quality Igbo or Ibo Wrist Guards or Cuff Bracelets, Nigeria, early style of the 19th. century.

These large bracelets are cast in cobber or cubrite bronze, they are tubular, tapering and have an almost closed ā€˜Cā€™ form. They are decorated with panels of ribbing and geometric patterns.

An interesting West African Banko funerary figure dating to 500-1300 AD.

The figure depicts a man with exaggerated features. The top of his head is hollow - like a small bowl. Figures like this are presumed to have been used in connection with funerals.

Size: 15 cm. in height. c. 6 inches.

Condition: Superb with wear for type and age and a very old artifact for the West African region.

African ibeji twin carved wooden figures, Yoruba people, Nigeria. Both with striated upswept coiffures and beaded embellishments. These are a pair with the same tatoos on their bellies, male and female.

Superb rich patina. The Yoruba figures on the market are normally never old. Here we have a set of twins, very old, likely from the 19th. century.

Size: 27,6 and 30 cm.

Ex. Collection of Mr. Sunde.
Probably the work of a master carver of the Abeokuta region.
