A massive Indonesian stone Relief tile, Java, ca. 8th.-10th. century AD.

Very high quality work in a almost white attractive Limestone, which is a rare choice of stone. The relief depicts a seated Deity on a Lotus Throne with Acolytes or worshippers at his left side. Difficult piece but we assume that the Deity is Buddha, though with strong Hindu local elements in the design.

The relief is carved with extreme depth and great accuracy.
