Very large and impressive decorated bronze bowl, dating to the period of Abbasid dominance, 7th.-9th. AD.
This bowl belongs to the interesting group of metal vessels which were made of high tin, or white bronze, in Persian sefîd rûy or in Arabic nuhâs abyad, an alloy of copper and zinc from around the 7th. cent and onwards.
This bowl is very large and possibly a food bowl with incised circles and a punched decoration in the center.
Size: 200-210 x 70 mm.
Condition: Choice Nice surfaces and a fine ancient dark toning on the exteriour which is typical for the white metal bowls, looks like silver. Larger interiour areas of verdigris as seen in the pictures. Very sound metal.
