A specimen of the worlds first paper money!
We have three of these very rare notes in stock - all from the famous collection of Sophus Black.
China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1399)Board of revenue, 1 Kuan or 1000 cash, printed on mulberry bark paper and stamped with the red seal of emperor Hung Wu.
Renowned collector and engineer Sophus Black (1882-1960). Black was stationed in China from 1902 to 1931.
The present example was bought at a reknown Danish Auctionhouse and has never been on the market since Sophus Black aquired it. Condition: About Extremely fine for type, unusually clear ink and stamps. Withour the usual thinning. Small hole and curled edges, but othervise superb.
One of the better specimens from Sophus Black, estimating ca. $5000 when it was sold at auctions some years ago.
