A rare and wonderful bronze mortar, Baroque period of Northern Europe, 18th. century.
The mortar is inscribed with owners initials O: H: S:, M: L: and the clear date 1769, the mortar is likely somewhat older, early 18th. century and made in a bronze allow, not brass that became popular later in the 18th. century.
The mortar comes with the original Pestle and was part of the inventory (Exebition) of a Swedish Farmacy.
Size: The mortar is 11 cm. high, and ca. 13 cm. wide over the handles. The Pestle is ca. 21 cm. The combined weight is ca. 2 kilograms . Condition: Choice, exceptional ancient patina, a real gem, never cleaned.
