A very rare and splendid silver Openwork Stamp Seal, Oxus civilization, Ca. 2600 to 2100 BC. Middle Bronze Age, Western Central Asia.
Located in present day northern Afghanistan, eastern Turkmenistan, southern Uzbekistan and western Tajikistan, centered on the upper Amu Darya (Oxus River)
Even this large Compartment seals are fairly common on the market in bronze, whereas large silver seal like our seal are extremely rarely encountered!
The seal cross-shaped in high relief and with a larger loop on the back.
Diameter: 5 cm. Weight: 45 grams, so massive!.
Condition: Superb, Of fine silver, basically uncleaned and with a fine ancient black, hard patina, that can be removed quite easily though.
