A late 18th-19th Century Berber/Touareg manilla bracelet.

Manilla anklets/armlets, often called "slave bracelets", originated a form of money.

Appearing before the colonial period, manillas were often worn to display wealth and used in trade. Manillas are sometimes still included in a marriage dowry.

The bracelet as seen in the pictures with massive finials and decorated with fine incised decorations on the surface almost worn off on the exposed areas. Interestingly, the finials are filled with another material, looks like iron, to make it heavier we suppose.

Size: Diameter ca. 8 cm. (outside) and inner diameter 6,3 or so. (3,14 x 2,48 inches). Ex. Very Old Danish Private Collection of Grethe Pedersen (Ledøje, Denmark).
