An important very large scultural figure of Guanyin, seated on a Rock, China, Qing Dynasty, 17th.-19th. century.
The bodhisattva is seated in royal ease, rajalilasana, on rocks, wearing long robes with beaded jewellery and a high crown set with a figure of Amitayus. The figure is covered with faded but finely preserved red, blue, green and gilt pigments. A 72 cm. large and 43 cm. wide impressive figure carved in wood and finely painted in douche colours.
Difficult to date but guaranteed 19th. century or earlier and perhaps late Ming Dynasty!
Condition: Exceptional condition for high age with all details intact. A couple of fingers on the right hand reattached and a deep age cracks (drying) on the back filled, dry wood with several smaller age cracks and loss of pigments.
