An exceptional rare and splendid ancient Chlorite stone jar Inter-cultural style of Persia / Bactria, 3rd. millenium BC.
The jar carved in a green-black chlorite stone with thick walls and a pronounced base decorated with two confronting Scorpio-men on each side, Southern Kermanh intercultural style of Bactria, Persia and Mesopotamia. Wonderful vivid style of carving! Attractive and symethic with the creatures carved with a bold and artistic hand. The scorpio was a creature associated with death in this culture and these scorpios has the head of men or birds.
Size: 86 mm. wide and ca. 65 mm. tall.
Condition: Choice, a few small ancient chips to the rim restored, othervise intact with a fine light greyish patina.
Ex. Old collection, collected in the 1970s-80s.
